Gerald B. Finch, Founder and Managing Principal of the Stillwater Group, began his career in higher education in 1973 as an assistant professor of political science at Columbia University. Following a public service leave as fiscal advisor to the president of the Council of the City of New York, he returned to Columbia as associate dean of arts and sciences, and later served for five years as the university’s chief planning and budget officer. In this capacity, he supervised budget planning and development for all academic and administrative units; developed training programs and designed organizational structures and management procedures for school and administrative business offices; directed the development of a new budget system; and managed Columbia’s academic and strategic planning initiatives. Education: Mr. Finch holds his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California (B.A., political science) and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota (Ph.D., political science).
